Home > KRS-1 is back!

When I was growing up I used to listen to KRS-1 a lot. I see he is dropping a new album soon and here is an example of the type of incredible stuff he still does:

KRS-1 is unique as an artist with an inimitable style of rapping. But I’d like to draw attention to his uniqueness as a philosopher with the following clip:

One of the things that is brought out in this video is the importance of history. We really are utterly lacking as a species when it comes to our history, and in this manner we are controlled. The other way we are controlled is via language and culture. As KRS points out in “Just Like That,” it isn’t the eyes that see so much as the mind, and the mind sees via language and culture.

The reality is that your eyes see all sorts of things, but your mind filters them out so you remain “limited.” A child who grows up in a tribal culture in the South American jungle can hear an animal moving 1 mile away because his culture dictates that he do so in order to survive. We have no such survival needs, so we filter out such sounds.

In the end, everything is mind.
